What MSC is
MSC, the Mediterranean Shipping Company, is a global container shipping company with its head office in Geneva, Switzerland. It runs one of the largest container fleets in the world and also has cruise and logistics businesses. Among Indian students, “MSC sponsorship for DNS” is one of the most searched company questions, so this guide answers it plainly.
MSC recruits seafarers, including cadets, through its own crewing offices rather than through agents. In India the cadet route is usually published as a notice from the crewing side of the company, not from the cargo-booking side. Read the notice carefully. It will state the course, the institute and the selection dates for that intake.
The usual MSC cadet route
MSC-sponsored cadets in India have generally been placed on the DNS route at institutes the company works with. The details change by intake, so treat the points below as the pattern, not the current notice.
- DNS sponsorship: clear IMU CET, appear for MSC’s selection rounds, and if selected, join a one-year DNS course with MSC as the sponsoring company. Sea time follows the course on an MSC ship.
- B.Sc Nautical Science and B.Tech Marine Engineering: MSC also recruits from degree colleges through campus selection. A student already on a degree course applies through the college when the company visits.
- MSC Cruises is a separate business with its own crewing. A cargo cadet notice and a cruise-ship vacancy are different routes; do not mix them up.
- The sponsorship letter, not the DNS admission, is what leads to the ship. Keep the written terms of the letter safely.

When intakes are announced
MSC-related cadet notices for India have usually appeared once or twice a year, a few months before a DNS batch starts. Typically twice a year, but confirm on MSC’s official careers page. A notice with no company e-mail address or with a fee attached is a warning sign.

1. Check the foundation
Review the current course eligibility, age, PCM and English requirements, then ask whether the route is DNS, B.Sc Nautical Science or another approved programme.
2. Confirm medical readiness
Discuss eyesight, colour vision and other medical questions early. Only an approved medical practitioner can determine fitness for sea service.
3. Apply through the official channel
A typical industry process may begin with an official vacancy or approved recruitment channel. Do not treat a coaching centre, social post or forwarded form as proof of authorisation.
4. Prepare for tests and interviews

5. Read the selection terms

- Is the notice current, and does it name the official employer or authorised channel?
- Which course, institute, medical certificate and documents are accepted?
- Are there written terms for training, fees, stipend, joining and shipboard progression?
- Who makes the final sponsorship decision, and how will the result be communicated?

Questions students ask about MSC
What does “MSC sponsorship for DNS 2027” actually mean?
It means a cadet notice where MSC selects Class 12 PCM students, sponsors their one-year DNS course and gives them sea time on its ships after the course. The 2027 batch will follow IMU CET May 2027.
Can I apply to MSC straight after Class 12?
You can apply to a cadet notice after Class 12 with PCM, but the seat itself depends on IMU CET and the company’s own selection rounds. Prepare for both together.
Which institute will I study at if MSC selects me?
The institute is named in the notice for that intake. It is usually an IMU-affiliated DNS institute the company works with. Do not choose a college before you know which one the company uses.
What if I fail the psychometric test?
Most companies treat it as one input, not the only one, but a strongly inconsistent profile can end the process. Practising the format in advance is the main protection.
Does MSC recruit engine cadets too?
Container companies recruit both deck and engine cadets. Engine cadets usually come from B.Tech Marine Engineering or GME courses, so the entry route is different from DNS.
