What Anglo-Eastern is
Anglo-Eastern is one of the largest ship management companies in the world, headquartered in Hong Kong. It manages ships for owners rather than owning most of them itself: bulk carriers, tankers, container ships, gas carriers and more. Because it crews so many ships, it is one of the biggest employers of Indian officers.
Anglo-Eastern runs its own pre-sea academy in India: the Anglo-Eastern Maritime Academy (AEMA) at Karjat in Raigad district, Maharashtra. AEMA’s course list shows a DNS course for Class 12 PCM students, plus GME and ETO courses for engineering graduates. Read our separate guide to the academy for the college side of the question.
The usual Anglo-Eastern cadet route
For a student straight after Class 12 PCM, the main Anglo-Eastern route is DNS at AEMA. The company selects the cadet, the academy trains the cadet, and the company provides the ship.
- DNS at AEMA: clear IMU CET, clear Anglo-Eastern’s own selection rounds, join the one-year DNS course at Karjat, then sail as a deck cadet on an Anglo-Eastern-managed ship.
- B.Sc Nautical Science and B.Tech Marine Engineering: Anglo-Eastern also recruits cadets from IMU campuses and affiliated colleges through campus selection during the degree.
- GME and ETO: these are for mechanical or electrical engineering graduates, not for a Class 12 student. They are listed here only so you do not apply to the wrong course.
- Because selection and training sit in the same group, the interview looks for cadets who will fit a strict residential academy as well as a ship.

Anglo-Eastern runs its own selection rather than relying on IMU CET rank alone. The usual pattern is below; the current format is on the official careers page.
Psychometric test
Personality and situational questions that look for consistency, discipline and how you behave under pressure in a small team.
Interview
A panel of company officers and academy staff. Questions cover your background, your understanding of life at sea, your science basics and why Anglo-Eastern specifically.
Medical
DG Shipping-approved medical examination with a strict eyesight and colour-vision standard for the deck side.
When intakes are announced
AEMA runs DNS batches on the IMU academic calendar, and Anglo-Eastern usually opens selection some months before a batch begins. Typically once or twice a year; confirm the current notice on the company’s careers page rather than on any third-party site.

1. Check the foundation
Review the current course eligibility, age, PCM and English requirements, then ask whether the route is DNS, B.Sc Nautical Science or another approved programme.
2. Confirm medical readiness
Discuss eyesight, colour vision and other medical questions early. Only an approved medical practitioner can determine fitness for sea service.
3. Apply through the official channel
A typical industry process may begin with an official vacancy or approved recruitment channel. Do not treat a coaching centre, social post or forwarded form as proof of authorisation.
4. Prepare for tests and interviews

5. Read the selection terms
Before accepting anything, verify the course, fees, training sequence, joining conditions and who makes the sponsorship decision. Keep the written official terms.

- Is the notice current, and does it name the official employer or authorised channel?
- Which course, institute, medical certificate and documents are accepted?
- Are there written terms for training, fees, stipend, joining and shipboard progression?
- Who makes the final sponsorship decision, and how will the result be communicated?

Questions students ask about Anglo-Eastern
Is Anglo-Eastern DNS sponsorship the same as admission to AEMA?
They go together. A student who clears Anglo-Eastern’s selection is sponsored by the company and trained at AEMA. Read the notice for how IMU CET fits into that year’s process.
Do I need IMU CET for Anglo-Eastern?
DNS at an IMU-affiliated academy sits on IMU CET, so plan for IMU CET May 2027 and the company’s selection together. The notice will state the exact requirement.
Where is the selection held?
Company selection rounds are usually held online for the test and at company offices or the academy for the interview. The notice names the centres for that intake.
What ships would an Anglo-Eastern cadet sail on?
